Guidance on the OpenAI Custom GPT Transition
OpenAI is transitioning custom GPTs to Skills through plugins. As part of this change, custom GPTs are scheduled to be retired on February 11. Some users may have already seen notifications related to this transition within the ChatGPT EDU workspace.
Who is Affected?
The University of Utah's AI Technology Services team is working with OpenAI to support affected users throughout the migration process. A targeted group of users who currently own published GPTs will be identified and provided the necessary permissions, migration guidance, and support resources.
If you have created and published a custom GPT, you do not need to take action at this time. Affected GPT owners will be contacted directly with migration instructions, information about the February 11 deadline, and details about where to get help.
Support & Resources
Support is available through AI Office Hours and AI Support resources for users who have questions as they work through the transition.
We will continue to share updates and resources as additional guidance becomes available from OpenAI and our campus technology teams.
Key takeaway: If you are not a published GPT owner, no action is required. If you are affected by this change, you will receive direct communication with the information needed to complete the migration.
