AI at the U Forum Recap — June 3, 2026
Thank you for joining us for AI at the U! This gathering continues to bring together our campus community to share updates, highlight emerging opportunities, and support thoughtful, responsible AI adoption at the University of Utah.
Education & Teaching with AI
The forum included a focus on teaching with AI, with updates and resources from the Center for Teaching Excellence. Key themes included:
- Supporting instructors with practical AI integration strategies
- Encouraging clear syllabus language and expectations around student AI use
- Expanding access to faculty and student resources to support classroom use
Events & Community Engagement
- Recurring opportunities like AI Office Hours, Tinker Labs, and the Community of Practice
- Upcoming events including the Utah AI Convergence Summit (June 23–24)
- Summer AI in Education Cohorts and the Fall AI Foundations Series
- Workshops such as Behind the AI Curtain focus on AI literacy and responsible use
Secure Research & Responsible AI
Updates from the Research Security Office emphasized:
- Support for secure and compliant AI-enabled research
- Cloud infrastructure and guidance for managing risk while enabling innovation
- Continued focus on responsible AI practices and governance
Tools, Adoption & Roadmap
We shared progress and what’s ahead in the university’s AI tool ecosystem:
- Continued expansion of tools including ChatGPT Edu, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, and NotebookLM
- Strong and growing adoption across platforms
- A forward-looking roadmap that includes new tools, expanded capabilities, and agent-based workflows
Governance remains central to this work, with all tools undergoing review to ensure alignment with university standards for privacy, security, and responsible use.
