AI Enhances Visual Storytelling at the College of Law
At the University of Utah College of Law, innovation isn’t just a concept—it’s a daily practice. Thanks to advancements in artificial intelligence, our communications team is finding creative ways to make the law school’s online presence more engaging and accessible.
Lindsay Wilcox, Communications Manager for the College of Law, recently shared how AI-powered tools are transforming the way student and faculty profiles appear on the website. Traditionally, students submit headshots for their profiles, but these images often don’t fit the dimensions required for homepage banners. Rather than cropping or distorting these photos, Lindsay uses Photoshop’s Generative Expand feature, an AI-driven tool that intelligently extends image borders while maintaining visual integrity.

This approach allows the team to create banner-ready images without compromising quality or composition. The result? A more inviting, professional website that showcases our community in the best possible light.
“Generative expand has been a game-changer,” Lindsay explains. “It lets us adapt photos seamlessly for different layouts, ensuring that every profile looks polished and consistent.”

The impact goes beyond aesthetics. By improving the visual experience, the College of Law strengthens its connection with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and prospective students—everyone who visits the site benefits from a more cohesive and welcoming design.
This project highlights how AI can support operational efficiency while elevating the user experience. It’s a solid example of technology enabling creativity and excellence in higher education communications.
