Guidelines & Policies
AI is evolving rapidly and has the potential to transform teaching and learning, accelerate research, foster innovation, and alleviate the burden of routine administrative tasks for faculty, students, and staff across the University of Utah. At the same time, the use of AI tools raises important questions about how university data might be repurposed or disclosed, whether a tool’s output is reliable and free from bias, and how such tools affect student learning. In some cases, using an AI tool can lead to non-compliance with existing university policies.
Existing policies designed to protect university data and research apply when using AI tools. The following guidelines provide additional context on how to interpret policies with respect to AI. As the academic, professional, and legal landscapes related to AI change over time, revisions or new policies may be adopted to help community members meet university expectations. Updates will be shared here and communicated broadly.
